UAL Camberwell
Academic Building & Campus Refurbishment
Architon acted as Architect and Lead Designer from RIBA Stage 4 on the redevelopment of the University of the Arts London’s Camberwell campus. The project involved completing the design and fit-out of a new academic building while delivering extensive refurbishment works to the existing campus facilities.
The new academic block provides a diverse range of specialist spaces, including a large lecture theatre, library, workshops, flexible art and design studios, and student social areas. Alongside this, the refurbishment of the existing 1970s building modernised the campus environment through the replacement of windows, reconfiguration of entrances, and the creation of new landscaped external spaces.
A new lower-level entrance with accessible routes, seating and integrated lighting has significantly improved the campus arrival experience, while internal alterations have created a contemporary home for reception, exhibition, teaching and administrative functions.
The completed project provides an inspiring and flexible learning environment that supports the creative ambitions of students and staff while enhancing the overall campus identity.
