National Centre for Pre-Clinical Innovation

The National Centre for Pre-Clinical Innovation (NCPI) will provide a new 5,000m² experimental research facility at the MRC Harwell Campus.
Co-located with the Mary Lyon Centre, it will offer world-class expertise and resources for interdisciplinary, translatable pre-clinical research.

The barriered facility will support advanced phenotyping and in-vivo research, with flexible spaces designed to meet national research needs and be accessible to scientists across the UK.
Specialist procedure areas will include in-vivo/behavioural, germ-free, holding and surgery facilities, alongside a CL3 unit with three containment suites.

A central research support zone will serve the facility with autoclaves, rack washer, VHP unit, pass-through port, laundry and storage, with offices and staff support areas outside the bio-barrier.

Sustainability is central to the project, which is currently assessed for BREEAM Outstanding and includes a green wall, high-performance U-values and extensive natural daylight.
Enabling works included a new HV supply and substation, which are complete and operational.
