GSK

Laboratory Refurbishment

The project involved the remodelling and refurbishment of an existing laboratory and associated office accommodation to create a safer, more efficient and fully compliant scientific environment aligned with the latest GSK standards and the operational requirements of the Oligo research group.

The works transformed the former B6G Smart Lab and office areas, delivering enhanced laboratory facilities designed to support specialist research activities. Key interventions included the installation of new cytotoxic safety cabinets and walk-in fume cupboards, carefully selected and configured to suit the proposed equipment and working practices. Additional safety and operational improvements comprised bespoke HPLC benching, acoustic enclosures for pumps and the provision of additional fire-rated ventilated storage cabinets.

A primary focus of the project was improving laboratory functionality, safety and regulatory compliance while maintaining flexibility for future research needs. Close collaboration with user groups, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) representatives and the wider project team ensured that the design responded effectively to both operational and technical requirements.

Through a coordinated design and delivery process, the project successfully provided a modernised laboratory environment that enhances safety, supports scientific innovation and meets the rigorous standards required for advanced pharmaceutical research.
