As part of Project Trent, the upper floors of Building 8 were stripped back, remodelled and refurbished to create state-of-the-art laboratories supporting GSK’s expanding R&D operations at Stevenage.

The project supported GSK’s relocation of vivarium and related research activities to the Stevenage R&D Hub, bringing Research Units, IVIVT and Galvani teams together within an integrated scientific campus.

Outdated cellular spaces were removed, with existing services stripped out to enable full floor plate redesign. New curtain wall glazing to the north façade improved daylight and created a more open working environment.

The laboratories were future-proofed to meet GSK and British Standards, using a specialist service tile system and central services spine to allow layouts, equipment and workstations to be reconfigured efficiently.

Close collaboration with stakeholders, end users and the professional team ensured the laboratory concepts met the needs of a modern research environment.

The completed scheme provides flexible, high-quality laboratory accommodation that supports innovation, collaboration and future growth as part of the wider Project Trent redevelopment.
