As part of GSK’s wider Project Trent redevelopment at Stevenage R&D campus, Building 8 was remodelled and refurbished to provide modern offices, meeting rooms and collaborative breakout spaces for relocated research teams.

The project supported GSK’s strategic investment to consolidate specialist research functions at Stevenage, bringing together research units, IVIVT and Galvani teams in one integrated environment.

Design options addressed operational adjacencies, circulation and links between offices, laboratories, the vivarium and wider campus. The final scheme delivered open-plan workspace, meeting rooms and informal breakout areas across the upper floors, with new windows improving daylight and openness.

The accommodation forms a central hub for the adjacent IVIVT laboratories, with breakout spaces between Buildings 6 and 8 encouraging informal collaboration. Ceiling-mounted services allow workstations to be reconfigured as operational needs change.

Sustainability measures included reusing, refurbishing and relocating furniture where practicable to reduce waste. The completed scheme provides a contemporary, flexible workplace that supports scientific research and future organisational change.
