Surgical Inpatient & Ambulatory Care Unit (SACU)

Architon partnered with Artelia UK to deliver a new Surgical Assessment and Ambulatory Care Unit (SACU) at St Helier Hospital, creating a modern clinical environment designed to improve patient flow, capacity and care delivery.

The project transformed existing accommodation into a comprehensive healthcare facility incorporating a 15-bed inpatient ward, examination rooms, trolley bays, recliner bays, waiting areas and essential support facilities for clinical teams. New windows were installed throughout to improve both the building’s appearance and environmental performance.
Delivered within a live hospital environment, the scheme required careful coordination with hospital stakeholders, clinicians and contractors.

Challenges included upgrading building services, meeting healthcare design standards and working alongside adjacent construction activities.

The completed unit provides a high-quality, patient-centred environment that supports efficient assessment, treatment and recovery while increasing capacity within the hospital.
