Office & Storage Facility

Architon was appointed by the Environment Agency to deliver a new operational centre supporting the maintenance and long-term resilience of the Thames Barrier, one of the UK’s most critical flood defence assets. Located on the site of the former visitor centre, the development comprises a contemporary two-storey office building, a single-storey warehouse and extensive external hardstanding for the storage of specialist equipment, plant and vehicles.

Designed with sustainability and operational efficiency at its core, the scheme incorporates green roofs, living walls and a range of environmental enhancements that support biodiversity and reduce the building’s ecological impact. The modern office accommodation provides a high-quality workplace, while the warehouse and associated storage areas ensure rapid access to essential components required to maintain barrier operations.

The completed development delivers a future-ready facility that supports the Environment Agency’s ongoing flood risk management responsibilities and achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating in recognition of its strong sustainability credentials.
